Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8

One of Sony Ericsson's most populated families of mobile phones is the XPERIA line of devices. This series of Smartphones ranges from the typical mobile device, all the way to the most unconventional (check out the XPERIA Pureness' transparent monochrome display).
One of their latest offerings is the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8. This definitely falls under the category of the more conventional types of mobiles, but this doesn't mean that it doesn't leave room for some quirkiness. Here's a closer look at this exciting device.
Cute and Compact
If what Sony Ericsson were going for in terms of the design of the X8 is something along the lines of cute and compact, then they definitely hit the spot with this one. The device is as small as most Smartphones could get with the dimensions of 99 x 54 x 15 mm. It is also very light weighing only a total of 104 grams.
What makes the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 unique is the different colour combinations it comes in. You can take your pick from five different colour finishes which include silver/white, pink/white, aqua blue/white, dark blue/white, and plain white.
If you're wondering why most of these schemes come in two colours, it's because the device offers a gradient-like finish. It looks almost like a two-toned finish which makes the X8's appeal unlike any other we've seen in a while.
Small but Smart
At first glance, it would be very easy to mistake the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 for a typical mid-range device because of its compact design. However, as they say, good thing come in small packages and this definitely holds true for the XPERIA X8.
The device comes with a 3" TFT capacitive touch screen display which has a 320 x 480-pixel resolution and is compatible with 16 million colours. Both 3G HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity are on board this mobile as is EDGE, GPRS, and Bluetooth.
The XPERIA X8 sports version 1.6 or Donut of the Android operating system running alongside the intriguing Timescape user interface. The 600 MHz processor should be able to handle all the hardware requirements of the device.
As for its multimedia features, there's a handy 3-Megapixel camera on board the X8. It isn't exactly cutting edge, but at least it has added features such as geo tagging. Oh and it can also capture VGA videos as well. There's a 3.5 mm ear jack as well which allows you to maximise the awesome multimedia player on the device. It even features TrackID music recognition which is definitely a pleasant surprise on the X8.
The Verdict
Don't expect the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 to be a cheap device, but also, it shouldn't be as expensive as most high end Smartphones in the market today. The device will be able to deliver value for money considering all the amazing features it has on board. In terms of its lineage, it will definitely be able to live up to the famed XPERIA name and should even be able to bring it up a notch or two.
